Last Dance With Mary Jane

Overview

When director Dave Meyers approached PSYOP with a vision for Snoop Dogg’s “Last Dance with Mary Jane,” it was clear this project would push every creative and technical boundary.

Partnering with animation directors Temple Caché, the team created a music video that blends handcrafted animation, live-action footage, and generative AI, becoming a surreal, semi-autobiographical journey through Snoop’s life and relationship with cannabis.

Featuring Jelly Roll, Method Man, Wiz Khalifa, and even digital cameos from icons like Tupac and Tom Petty, the video is both an eye-popping visual odyssey and a powerful reflection on social justice and personal choice.

Rather than rely on a single visual style or technique, the creative team embraced a hybrid approach—merging 2D, 3D, motion design, collage animation, and AI-generated elements. Proprietary tools helped dream up landscapes and characters, but every frame was touched by human hands to maintain emotional nuance and visual consistency. The result is a handcrafted yet futuristic aesthetic that feels both timeless and radically new, capturing the psychedelic energy of the story without losing its emotional center.

The production was global and collaborative, with over 30 artists and animators working across continents, guided by Temple Caché’s Marion Castéra and Kelzang Ravach. From green-screen shoots with Snoop in LA (alongside Dr. Dre) to experimental animation pipelines developed in the South of France, every moment of the project was defined by trust, experimentation, and a shared creative vision. “Last Dance with Mary Jane” is more than a music video, it’s a love letter to the power of craft, collaboration, and storytelling without limits.
